There are a few rose bushes on my block. They’re quite a vibrant mix of flora too, as some are floral and some are dark red and some are even very pale yellow. They’re sweet, Springy eye candy to take in on the block.
My favorite of these flowers is a bush that I am sure to take my dogs near that features mauve roses. Mauve. I’ve never seen flowers like them before, in a pale pink-purple that seems so sweet and adorable and like a something a little cherub would perch atop of as he blew kisses of love to passersby. I mean, have you seen the color of my website? I love sweet colors and I love these flowers.
Sometimes referred to as “amnesia roses” or “ocean song roses,” I’ve found them so inspiring that I wanted to let them direct me visually, to be my Color Of The Moment. Whether it’s a white-pink or pink-pink, a subtle hint or a scream of color, you can take a lot from these mauve florals. Take their softness from their petals, humor from their atypicality, sweetness from their scent, and girlishness from their being fucking muted pink roses. They are the sweetest little things.
While florals for Spring aren’t exactly groundbreaking nor are sweet patterns particularly now (Two years ago? Certainly. Last year? Maybe. Now? Eh.) but something about an understated color like mauve makes this feel alive. In employing this Color Of The Moment, I implore subtlety because, like the flower, the attraction is in how understated it is. Go for a minimalist print or micro-print, a light fabric or a slender swoop of this pink: whatever you do, do mauve in as muted a way as possible. This isn’t about standing out or blending in but being eventually noticed, being that person who people pass and, after a few looks over, find you to be what they are missing.
So let mauve florals guide you through this season. Let them be your Color Of The Moment.
