MONTH DAY, 2017
The Honorable REPRESENTATIVE
United States Congress
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Congressman LAST NAME,
I am writing to ask for your support of gun control.
We live in a nation that is obsessed with danger. Unfortunately, the dangers that we keep hearing about, the narrative that our administration keeps pushing, is related to threats “outside” of the country, from places like Iran and from people who are Muslim. That is blatantly untrue. Threats are everywhere, sure, but they are in America already.
Due to a lack of gun control, we are already at risk. We do not have comprehensive, national background check for gun purchases. We do not have structures in place to help people with mental health problems. We do not actively work to suppress new—and old—radical American hate groups like the KKK, Westboro Baptist Church, and more. We are not safe in America as it is—and we’re not focusing on the problems that we already have.
It’s very easy to tell that we’re being distracted by non-issues. From supposedly rampant unemployment to the supposed looming threat of ISIS in the United States to the supposed threat of undocumented persons in the states, they’re all a means of keeping the real problems—guns, the environment, energy, health, income inequality, racial injustice, eroding physical infrastructures, etc.—out of the conversation. We as a nation need to wake up—and it starts with you leading the charge.
I hope and pray that you take action. Please let me know that I have your support in making gun control a priority—and then working outward from there.
