This election, one figure has inserted herself into the cultural, political landscape as a fierce critic of the foul and injustice. Her name is Cher and she is the queen of sharing.
Her point of view and use of emojis has defined this election, articulating all the insanity that is being thrown around in a no-nonsense intelligent (and often silly) manner. She has inspired fan art and think pieces and doesn’t seem to be taking any of this lightly: it’s charging her forward, into the future of social media based activism.
However, amidst her thoughts and toilet Tweets, something is striking: she is the queen of out-of-touch-but-in-touch technologic balancing. She often will share a Cher image for effect but they come with all sorts of baggage, of photos unintentionally shared below by way of a screengrab. None of them are foul or not-for-Cher-ing but they offer a window into what Cher was looking at and thinking about. Keep in mind, this queen of Twitter is 70 to Hillary’s 68 and obviously without a team of social children to help: Cher is doing it for herself.
Thus, here is a combing of a few of the most fascinating screengrabs, croppings, and etc. beauties of media items that Cher has shared on Twitter. They are what Cher is looking at. I also only went back to January 2015-ish, as to not consume my life in Cher shares.
First, the screengrabs.
The most recent Tweet, a screengrabbed retweet of a PETA something, this photo also shares photos of her cat along with a few caught social interactions. The most remarkable thing is that this image was screengrabbed before 5AM.
Shared as a part of a fabulous photo set that was Tweeted out during the DNC, fueling speculation that she would make a cameo, the last photo in the series pointed to a few things. First, some sort of emoji-communicating something. Second, Meryl Streep as Donald Trump. Of course!
One of the most fascinating Cher shares is a Tweet from January about her and Mask co-star Eric Stoltz. It’s a cute, very 1985 Cher image but also includes lots of photos of herself and other celebrities, most notably she and Hillary Clinton in 2000 and a rare 1997 image of Cher and RuPaul.
Related to the above, this image of Cher and Hillary was Tweeted out to promo a fundraiser she is hosting for Hill in Provincetown, where Cher noted how young the two of them looked. You can see a lot of other Hillary ephemera but, most fascinating, an image that looks like a Cher / Hillary billboard in NYC.
A photo of her and “Jessie Jo” working, this image features lots more of…Cher being Cher along with some potential pocket photos of crosses.
She loves this 2000 photo of her and Hill along with some fascinating photos of herself and, um, some texts and shoes.
Why was an Under Armour jockstrap screengrabbed and shared by Cher? Because this was to express that this is the only type of support she would ever give Trump. She also included photos of her cats and street art of Putin and Trump kissing.
Now, let’s look at photos that she has cropped but…but screengrabbed and shared instead of pushing “done.”
Now, to wrap up, here is a grab bag of the most bizarre, lovely, and most Cher shares. Bow down.
Again: you need to add Harambe, Cher.
Literally she Tweeted this out after the Pulse shooting in Orlando. What else was Cher supposed to do?
Finally, the pièce de résistance: fucking Christmas Minion Cher.
I love you, Cher. Thank you for sharing.
